Home Alone!

Joe has left me alllll alone in Oxford, so I get to do whatever I want this week! I'm so crazy- tonight I'm doing laundry and watching Toddler's in Tiaras marathons.

Goodbye Joe, hellllooooo brie

Salad with extra shallots

I know you were probably thinking that that salad looked extra delicious, and it was because of this:

Kathy Z's home grown lettuce!

Looks like Uncle Bill has some competition.

Christmas Contest

The admissions department is divided into two rooms, and someone had the genius idea to pit us against each other in a door decorating contest for a VERY desirable prize! Here is my side's finished product:

No silly blog readers, it's not a real fire!

Im sorry to say that we lost to the other side, who created a super cute ginger bread house. I definitely agree with the ruling, but am also a sore loser and obviously did not take a picture of the winning side. I have now decided that I don't think "contests" are very "Christmasy."

Let it Snow!

When I opened my window to get some sunlight in my room and check out the weather last week before work, this is what I saw:

It was a complete surprise, no one told me anything about snow!

This was possibly my first time to see snow actually falling because I always pretend to see it when people wake me up in the middle of the night just so I can go back to sleep.

Snow is fun to eat while you walk to your car!

I became alarmed and wondered if I was supposed to drive to work, but then I saw another car driving so I figured it must be ok. No one has ever informed me of how to drive in the snow so I just winged it... I didn't notice any difference. I must be a professional.

I took some pics from Dan's facebook so you can see some scenes besides my office window, which is what I saw all day...

The weatherman said that Memphis has gotten more snow than Chicago this year!! BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

All I Want for Christmas

In case anyone needed an idea.

Christmas Break is Coming Fast!

It's exam week at Ole Miss, and I finished my last one today!!!! I am so thrilled to have some time off from my three hour classes every day. For one of my classes, all we had to do was draw a picture for our "exam!" Love it! Here is a glimpse of my finished picture:

The teacher tried to make up a deeper meaning for it... I just agreed with her and pretended that's what I was going for.

When I was leaving the art building... I encountered this:

It's hair. For a sculpture class. G R O S S

Poor Joe is in the middle of taking his exams, and he will be finished on Thursday! Luckily he has a nice girlfriend who makes him study snacks.

MBA Christmas Cocktail

The MBA class had a Christmas Cocktail party last Thursday which really got us into the Holiday mood! Grown up Christmas cocktails are quite different than the ones from college.

pretty invitation

Mr. Cheese Snowman

Joe and his "colleagues" - very professional

Out on a school night! Friday was no fun for me.

excited about taking cupcakes home..

The hostess with the mostess!

For some reason, the MBA'ers think that we can handle two nights of activities in a row, so they had a tacky christmas party the next night. Turns out that standards for costumes are a little lower in Oxford, and Joe was the HIT of the party.

Ho ho ho!

Cheese Connoisseur

I love to buy weird cheeses from Kroger. I figured that I should start recording which ones I liked and the ones I didn't so I don't re-buy a gross one (very likely.) Here are the latest two I have bought, which are both failures...

Drunken Goat in the back, and Lemon Stilton in the front

The drunken goat seemed like a good idea, but the texture was a little weird. The lemon stilton was gross because...why would anyone buy a cheese with lemon in it? Oh well, win some lose some.

Gobble Gobble

We finally got to go home for a few days over Thanksgiving break, and it went by very quickly!

Here was my favorite food of the trip:

Quail rollups. Turkey smurkey.

This little lady and her parents came to visit:

Miss Palmer Z

The night after Thanksgiving, we met the Granade's at Bluegill for dinner:

Group pic!

After dinner we piled in the car and met all of our friends at Cafe 615, followed by a lovely time at my favorite establishment- Veets! It was quite a night!

The next day I went to Mellow Mushroom with Christine and Sarah Blake, WHY does Oxford not have a Mellow Mushroom?!?!? The white pizza was delicious as usual.

It was Iron Bowl day, so we set about making plans and getting ready. Here we are watching the game at Christine's house! We allowed Libby to come to our Alabama party since she generally doesn't know what's going on with the games and we knew she wouldn't be smack talking. Let's just say she wore blue on accident!

The par-tay! Minus Martin, who was our picture taker and champagne popper.

Rolllll Tide!!! And Happy Thanksgiving!

Lauren comes to Oxford!

Somehow, I tricked Lauren into driving to Oxford to visit for the LSU vs Ole Miss game! She got here Saturday and we went straight to the grove. It was almost game time and we decided not to buy tickets to go to the game, so we hung around the grove where no one cared in the least bit that there was a game going on!

Lauren was peer pressured into wearing a Colonel Reb tattoo. LSWho?

Later we went to South Depot Taco Shop, where we ran into this guy:

And then we ended up at the "freshman" bar Funky's - which is set up like a New Orleans's bar with lots of frozen drinks.. Can't say I'll go back, but it was tons of fun that night! Lauren has now been added to the best friend's who have visited us in Oxford list! The list is short, people- better start planning your trips up here!

Katherine's Matchmaking Service

Before we left for Tommy and Tracy's wedding in Knoxville, we went to see Rent put on by the Ole Miss theatre guild. I guess Joe doesn't know the rules of the theata, as he snapped this picture while we waited on the show to start. This led to a lot of showtune singing concerts put on by me in the weeks to come, and we got to listen to Rent Pandora station on our eight hour car trip the next day!

Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred miiiinutes

I'm sure that you are curious about my post title, so I will fill you in! I am responsible for a wedding! I introduced my best friend from class at Alabama to Tommy, and magic happened. I'm sure they will tell the story to their kids one day, and I will always be hanging in a picture above their mantle.

I also got to expand on my skills as program lady at the wedding, where I passed out the programs and gave lovely smiles to the people who came to celebrate the wedding. Joe was busy serving as a groomsman/ usher and escorting beautiful ladies down the aisle, or I'm SURE he would have snapped a picture of me in action.

This was my first time in Knoxville, and I could not have been more surprised. That place is awesome!! I was expecting a gross little town with a lot of orange (sorry Tracy) but it's really like a smaller Nashville with a really cool downtown.

This is a picture from the rehearsal dinner in a tall building with a sweet view.

Besties

The bride and groom dancing! Somehow Joe never misses the first dance... or any other "wedding activities" for that matter. Who knows what I am doing.

And here we are at the reception having a grand ole time! The house was on the water and the band was awesome. Good times (and bushwackers) were had by all!

If anyone is single and looking for their soulmate, I am taking new customers... XOXO

Game of the Century

Well, the game of the century didn't turn out exactly how we wanted it to... but little did we know that there would be a rematch!

This was probably the best part of the day of the AL vs. LSU game...

Zing Zang with Tony's on the rim

We watched the game at the Library..after the Ole Miss game (which didn't turn out the way the crowd would have liked either!)

We got good seats and kept them....for about 8 hours, yikes.

I'm sure that Mr. Ryan will send us some pictures from the National Championship in New Orleans! Hopefully they will be celebration pics.

HO HO HO!!!!

Whoopsies, I did it again... let's not act surprised! I'm back with another blog catch up... looks like we are moving at a pace of one post per season. Here is jolly ole Santa Claus at Joe's house:

"Happy Holidays!"

Here are some scenes from an Oxford holiday season:

The lights on the square are so pretty!

There was a Christmas parade tonight.. it was freeeeezing! We did not stand outside to watch, although it looked pretty intense. We had a nice little view while we were eating in my favorite (warm) place to eat, Volta.

Floats, bands and all! We didn't see Santa Claus though.

This is our little Elf, I have been moving him around like an elf on the shelf to creep Joe out....it's working.

He looooves wine

The best Christmas candle ever:

Frasier fir - we are pretending it's a real one

We are going to have to skip my St. Louis post, but it's coming as soon as we get some pictures! My camera doesn't feel like taking pictures unless they are super blurry, so we will be working with iPhone pics from here on..

Ok, see you next Spring! hahaha jk jk (maybe)

A Real-Life Halloween Nightmare

The scariest thing ever happened to us the other day when we opened Joe's front door and there was a huge tarantula trying to run inside and gain entry to the apartment. We both freaked out, and when Joe realized that I wasn't going to do anything to help the situation (except scream out orders to MURDER IT!!!!)- he was forced to take action and he stomped it. In a terrifying turn of events- the spider immediately had 1 million little babies run out from its dead body!!!!! I think about half of them came inside, so I need to find out how long they take to grow into adults, and then never come back to Joe's house again.

I tried to google a "before/alive" image of the spider so you could be scared too, but my skin started crawling when the images popped up.

Here is what is left of him, with a chicken finger next to him for size comparison.

HAHAHHA, NO we didn't actually think it would be helpful to compare the mega-spider to a chicken finger, but it was left there by a little kid playing after the football game yesterday and I thought, why not? When in Rome?

Ron Weasley would be mortified.
